Memory Saving Architecture: Phoenix PicoCard provides complete PCMCIA compatibility in system with even less than 1Mb of RAM. It accomplishes this through an patent pending innovative ROM-executable paging architecture that copies PCMCIA software functions from ROM to RAM dynamically as they are needed. This reduces the memory footprint of a complete and compliant PCMCIA software solution to less than a third of traditional PCMCIA software. In systems with greater than 1Mb of RAM, PicoCard can also use DPMS (DOS Protected Mode Services) to map key PCMCIA functions above 1Mb. In this case the software memory footprint is also reduced by more than a third of traditional PCMCIA software.
Robust Power Management: Phoenix PicoCard provides a variety of levels of automatic power conservation that minimizes power drain and maximizes system capabilities. PicoCard is APM (Advanced Power Management) aware, and can send instructions to PC Card client drivers to intelligently go into different power levels, depending on user activity.
Flexible FLASH Card Support: Phoenix PicoCard fully supports a wide variety of FLASH cards in the market with an FTL system provided by M-Systems. By incorprating M-Systems TrueFFS file system into PicoCard, and leveraging Phoenix's MTD library for FLASH card types, PicoCard can enables maximum flexibility FLASH. PicoCard even has the ability to boot from an FTL FLASH card by dynamically detecing the card type during POST and loading the OS from the FTL formatted card.
